INTERIOR PAINTING GUIDE

PREPARATION IS EVERYTHING

Before you start, be sure to check the condition of the surface you want to paint. There may be various surface problems, like cracks or peeling, and these
need to be seen to before you begin your painting project.

In order to determine what needs to be done, carefully examine the existing surface to be painted, especially previously painted surfaces.

If you are unsure whether the surface is loose and needs to be stripped of existing paintwork, test by making a series of small crosses in the paint, using a
blade. Apply adhesive tape over the areas and press down firmly. Pull off quickly and if the paint comes away from the surface, it needs to be stripped.

PREPARE TO PAINT

Before beginning your painting project make sure you have the following tools handy to ensure a Professional Start to a Professional Finish.

Protection – drop sheets, making tape, sponges, mutton cloth.

Preparation – filler, paint-scrapers, sandpaper, sugar soap, extension ladder.

Painting – brushes, rollers, roller tray, bucket, roller extension handle.

Cleaning – water if water based, Genkem Mineral Turpentine if solvent based.

COLOUR SELECTION

When choosing colours, it is very important to keep the following in mind:

Size of the room
The existing furnishings
The mood
The day and night light availability

To ensure that colours are consistent when painting a large area, it is essential that paint from the same batch is used.

Bulb lighting or incandescent lighting will make colours appear more yellow or orange. Florescent lighting varies greatly from a warm white to a cool white and has varying effects on colours. It is best to check colours during the daytime and at night to see how they are affected by the change in lighting.

We have the ability to match any shade to bring Colour Magic to your room. Apart from our own standard colours, we are able to match fabrics, tiles, carpets or even colours from other paint companies. Our Spectrophotometer makes all this possible!
